Community Issue
We want kids to realize how fun it can be to help your community. Not enough kids take the time to volunteer to help others in need. PSVP Kids meet once a month to help the environment, the homeless, cheer up the elderly, work with the poor, with Veterans, share the holidays with kids in need and so much more! Just think how many great things could happen if every kid in Pittsburgh spent one day a month helping others! And then think what could happen if every kid in Pennsylvania, then the US, then the world did this! We want to change how kids think.
Social Impact
If we could convince more kids to not just volunteer, but to give money to the communities where they volunteer, we could change how kids think. We want kids to make the same promise to help others as they do their sports teams and other activities. We want to make the world a better place so that people are happier and have a better place to live. Lots of people working together can make a big difference.
Plan for Change
PSVP Kids are a group of kids who come together once a month with our parents and siblings to volunteer in the community. Each kid has to raise $200 at home, through chores, dog walking and other ways to give to the program. We also work together on a fundraiser to make our pool of money even bigger. At the end of the year, we decide how we want to give our money back to the communities where we worked. Last year, we raised over $2500! After a long conversation, we decided to divide the money into different amounts for different communities in need. We had so much fun that this year, we decided we want to recruit more and more kids to help us change the world.
Innovation
We do volunteer projects at school and have fundraisers at school for things like the disaster in Haiti. But, PSVP Kids is different because we do it with our parents and siblings. We don't just volunteer one time, but keep doing things over and over, learning about the community and how to help. We have also learned that when you give time and money together, it can do a lot more. We feel a lot more connected to the communities we work with. We learn responsibility and feel good inside. It is fun to help others.
Sustainability
Our idea can absolutely live on! Not only that, but it can grow and grow and grow until every kid everywhere thinks like we do. And we will change as we get older by taking on bigger tasks and more responsibility. If we were chosen as the winner, we could do so much more to help our community. So many more kids would be involved, thinking like we do!
